Beach House makes world's greatest holiday, Record Store Day, even better

As frequent readers of this blog will know, there is no greater holiday than RECORD STORE DAY!!!!!!! (Ok, except maybe--definitely--Halloween.) (And also OH SO COINCIDENTALLY, you will know that no band has better press photos than Beach House. Look at 'em! They're having a seance or some shit.) Anyways, Record Store Day is the best because, if you work at a participating record store, not only do you get a commemorative t-shirt, but maybe you, the hungry employee, can prize some complimentary, congealing pizza from the greedy hands (er, I meant splendid hands, WE LOVE YOU!!!!) of a customer. (What? You're there for like 7 hours and you're hungry. That guy has been there for all of fifteen minutes.) And the best part of all is the Record Store Day exclusives.

Last year it was some thing from Jesus Lizard that I did not get but if someone wants to get it for me off of E-bay right now, that would be pretty awesome. This year my personal most coveted RSD exclusive (mostly b/c I haven't heard of anything else yet, but come on, you know I love them) is a Beach House EP entitled Zebra. It contains four tracks, including something called "10 Mile Stereo (Cough Syrup Remix)," and while I have never drank a bottle of cough syrup, I am still totally intrigued by the concept...once you factor in Beach House. (Why? I figure you'd see leprechauns and maybe Three Six Mafia. And also have the added bonus of doing something super trashy. Fascinating!) Anyways, Record Store Day falls on April 17 this year, so that's pretty much your (non-Ebay) day to get this thing. Do it! Because then later you can give it for me when you forget my birthday.

Tracklisting:

01 Zebra (UK Radio Edit)
02 The Arrangement
03 Baby
04 10 Mile Stereo (Cough Syrup Remix)

Don't forget Record Store Day!!!!!

It's coming!!!! The holiday that will change your life, Record Store Day, is this Saturday, April 19th!!! I signed up to work at my record store/workplace solely because of the all the awesome food I will get to eat. Coffee and bagels!! Pizza! And this, the greatest part of Record Store Day, a BARBECUE!!!! A BBQ at my work/any record store honestly fulfills a dream I never knew I had until I got the email from my boss. Could anything be better than knowing you can buy a Heart LP, the new Jarboe with Justin Broadrick CD, and then go eat a delicious veggie/non-veggie burger smothered in smoky BBQ sauce??? Well, maybe if there was cheap beer, too, but hey, this is real life not a movie. You can't have everything.

A handful of Mpls record stores are doing stuff, as are shops around this country and other countries, too! Stuff like sweet give-aways, performances, and stuff. Check out the Record Store Day website for some idea of what's going down. I don't think it's listed, but in addition to the sweet, sweet BBQ action, Electric Fetus is also having a DJ set by DJ Freddy Fresh.

The best holiday (beside Halloween) is coming up!

I just found out about this great holiday that probably no one will really celebrate! (Although, if I remember to write it down in my planner, I am TOTALLY buying holiday theme shots. Move over, "I have a dream" shots--I have a new dream. The dream of celebrating myself and my place of employment.) You see, April 19th has been declared National Record Store Day by the Coalition of Independent Music Stores. This is awesome because I constantly require validation re: my coolness/right to look down on people. Did I mention that I like Swans and Big Black? I am totally more hardcore than you--don't even try to step to me.

They say that this website will give you the DL on what local independent stores are doing to celebrate this great--possibly even greater than Lincoln's Birthday--holiday. In other news, my internet access is pretty random, so I'm aiming to update this blog at least twice a week--slightly less than the 3x a day I used to do when I was unemployed.

Note: The girl next to me at the coffeeshop keeps emphatically repeating "She is NOT. PRETTY. She is just NOT PRETTY." I am so glad I sat next to her. What will she emphatically say next?
